I wrote this poem today, in memory of my dear Brother Leo, one of those closest to my heart, who passed into the glory of His Lord and Saviour on November 29, in in the year of our Lord 2012.
Sweet singer, my brother,
How you shall be missed,
Your place will be empty
Here in our midst.
How well I remember,
Not too long ago,
When you trusted in Jesus
To save your lost soul.
And how you loved Jesus,
Your Saviour and Friend,
Who by His great grace,
Washed you from all sin.
Though in Christ you’re my junior,
Still, through these years,
You encouraged my spirit
And eased my hearts fears.
Engraved in my mem’ry,
Your concern for the lost,
How you told them of Jesus,
What He did on the cross.
How I long for the days
When we went out preaching,
The compassion you showed
For lost souls seeking.
And how sweet the times
When we sang together
“Victory in Jesus,
My Saviour forever!”
I remember your joy
When your mother was saved,
And the day your dear father
Had his sins washed away.
I still see the night
We learned your dad passed,
And together we wept,
Knowing God’s time is best.
But no longer you’re weeping,
You’re with them, hand in hand,
And you’re worshipping Jesus,
Praising the Lamb!
In this lifetime you struggled,
You fought a long war,
But your battle is ended,
You have peace evermore.
On earth we are weeping,
For here you are missed--
But there, you’re rejoicing
In God’s glorious bliss.
Soon I’ll join you, my brother,
And again we will sing
In thanksgiving to Jesus
Our Redeemer and King!
“Lord, we thank you for Leo,
Our friend and our brother,
For the time we shared with him,
To serve You together.
“Now You’ve taken him to you,
Your timing, the best,
And he’s happy in your presence,
In Christ, he’s at rest.”
